Kol-HaTor The Voice of the Turtle Dove

Kol HaTor - קול התור or "The Voice of the Turtledove" (a reference to Song of Songs 2:12) was written by Rabbi Hillel Rivlin of Shklov, a disciple of the Vilna Gaon . The text deals with the Geulah (Era of Redemption) and describes its signs vis-a-vis an evaluation of a proposed 999 footsteps of the Moshiach’s arrival. The Vilna Gaon believed the number 999 to be intrinsically connected to the idea of Moshiach ben Yosef, he also felt that this number is alluded to in the gematria of his own name. It was first published in Hebrew by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Kasher in 1968 to whom the book was passed down over the generations.

H/T A three-day fast (the kind Queen Esther of Persia commanded upon the Jewish People all those many centuries ago) has been declared in Israel (Rabbis Arik Naveh and Yuval Asherov haCohen, shlit"a, are featured in the video below), extending to the Jewish world, and so far over 23,000 have signed up. That's since Shabbat Pekudei, when I first heard about it from a very dear friend of mine in the neighborhood. I couldn't find it online, but fortunately, my friend posted the link in our local e-newsletter, so that I could go there, sign up, and spread the word just that much further.

The dates are Monday-Wednesday, March 21-23. Most who are fasting will begin after Ma'ariv/Arvit prayers Sunday night. 

Those who cannot fast for three days in a row can join the fasting for one or two days or for a few hours.

Those who do not fast should redeem the fast by money, everyone  according to his own ability. Sorrow of money lost equals the sorrow of fasting. The amount should be at least three time 18 NIS for each of the days (NIS 54).

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT?

Purim was coming soon. Dovi was excited. One Sunday, his mother said: “Dovi, today is the day of the Purim carnival! Please hurry to put on your jacket and we’ll be ready to go.”

Uh oh! Dovi’s teacher had said that the children should wear costumes to the carnival. He had to tell Mommy that she had made a mistake; otherwise, Dovi would be the only one there without a costume!

Dovi wasn’t sure what to do. He didn’t want to embarrass his mother by saying that she made a mistake. The Torah says that being careful not to embarrass your parent shows yirah. What could he do?

Suddenly, Dovi had an idea. He decided to pretend that he didn’t understand and ask his mother a QUESTION about it. This way, his mother would realize on her own that she had made a mistake. Then she could correct it by herself and not be embarrassed.

“Mommy,” Dovi asked, “Is it possible that we’re supposed to wear costumes to the carnival?”

“I think I had better check the flyer,” Mommy said. Immediately, Mommy walked over to look at the flyer that was hanging on the wall. “Well, you are right, Dovi! I’m glad that you reminded me!”

Asking Mommy a question really worked. And Dovi was so very happy – not because he could now wear his costume, not because he was going to the carnival, and not even because of Purim. Dovi was happy that he had done the mitzvah of not correcting his parent in an embarrassing way. Well done, Dovi!

Look What Weather Modification Did Yesterday

I took pics Thursday morning when I was walking to work. Stay with me here as I would like to explain the self explaining 2 photos and the event that took place. I took the pic of the sun 1st (still trying to learn how to invert to see the star/planet behind it) and saw streaks all across the morning sky as you can clearly see for yourselves. 

As I was drinking my morning coffee - I skimmed quickly over this Weather Modification Report given to Congress in May of 1978 (please see report here) instead of looking at The Yeshiva World.  I then "googled" Cloud Seeding, because the report to Congress reports on this (I'm learning science all over again), for activities in New York. 

Cloud seeding, a form of weather modification, is the attempt to change the amount or type of precipitation that falls from clouds, by dispersing substances into the air that serve as cloud condensation or ice nuclei, which alter the microphysical processes within the cloud.  You Can Read All About this Here and you can get a good laugh here as the author was explaining the chem trails he took pictures of. He goes on to say that the planes are attacking the "sylphs". I had to google that word. I don't want to give it away - so read for a laugh. Actually, if you click my pic without the sun - it does kinda look like a sylph is on the right. Hmmm perhaps this sylph is just one of the angels that are going back and forth to give a reporting to HaShem - do smile.

After cooking Shabbos chicken soup and mopping floor the garbage was taken out. It was around 12:30 AM and what a nice gift HaShem gave to us - a light covering of snow covered the cars. It was too cold and I was too tired to take a picture, but I assure you that snow fell. Well whatta you know  - these planes sprayed this morning so we could enjoy our kinder playing in the snow as they wait for their school buses to pick them up.

Singing this way - HaShem is in control.

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. — One resident called 911 asking whether the village’s water would burn his skin off. Families have lined up to have their blood drawn and their wells tested. Banks stopped giving out mortgages, and some local residents stopped washing their dishes, their clothes and themselves. Erin Brockovich has been to town.

Such are the unpleasant contours of a public health emergency that is playing out in Hoosick Falls, a quiet river-bend village near the New York-Vermont border that has been upended by disclosures that the public water supply was tainted with high levels of perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, a toxic chemical linked in some studies to an increased risk for cancer, thyroid disease and serious complications during pregnancy.

Last week, a federal class-action lawsuit was filed against Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics and Honeywell International, the current and former owners of the plant that, according to the state, was the source of the PFOA contamination. The toxic chemical is associated with the making of Teflon, which was used in products manufactured at the plant.
